Abstract: Type 2 diabetes and cancer are currently the most common pathologies in human population. The constant increase in the number of new cases regarding both diseases is widely observed, while the prognosis for the nearest future is unfortunately very pessimistic. This article presents the pathophysiological connections between colon cancer and type 2 diabetes, with special focus on insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia and insulin/IGF axis. Fatty tissues, especially visceral, despite energy supply are also a source of inflammatory cytokines, hormones and endopeptides which have a significant influence on cellular metabolism, hence leading to the development of particular neoplasms, like colon cancer.
