Dr. Anand currently works in private practice in Northern Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington DC, seeing the full range of psychiatric disorders in adults and adolescents. He also writes psychiatric forensic reports for local state courts. He continues to hold tenure as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at George Washington University Department of Psychiatry in Washington DC, teaching forensic psychiatry concepts to medical students. He received the Certificate of Appreciation for Dedication and Excellence in Teaching from George Washington University Department of Physician Assistant Studies for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016).

Dr. Anand obtained his medical degree (M.B.,B.S) from Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospitals (University of London) in the United Kingdom in 1992. After partial residency training at University of Cambridge (UK), he came to the University of Virginia (United States) in 1998 to complete his psychiatric residency. He later did fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry at University of Virginia Schools of Medicine and Law. Dr. Anand is ‘board certified’ in adult and forensic psychiatry from The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Anand has an extensive range of clinical experience dating back 30 years, and he has worked with a wide variety of patients in the UK and later in different states in the United States. He has also written forensic reports to, and served as an oral expert witness for, various state courts and tribunals dating back to 2003. This is related to the area of civil and criminal forensic psychiatry issues (such as the Insanity Defense and involuntary hospitalization).

Dr. Anand has published extensively: ranging from movie reviews to editorials in national and internationally renowned journals. Most recently (in 2023), he wrote an editorial paper on the diagnostic dilemmas entailed in assessment of anger, irritability, aggression and violence. He is currently working on an editorial that addresses the similarities, differences and comorbidity between ADHD and anxiety.

Dr. Anand co-chaired an oral presentation on the Psychodynamics of Violence against Psychiatrists at the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law conference in 2017, and most recently, presented the paper: ‘Has the DSM failed?’ at the 2022 2nd International Conference on Global Healthcare and Nutrition in Paris, France.
